Night Rating

Fly Over The Sparkling City Night Lights!

Flying at night is one the most beautiful and peaceful times to fly! A Night Rating allows you to fly during the hours of legal night, one hour after sunset and one hour before sunrise. Explore and fly through the beautiful night sky by getting your Night Rating today!

Prerequisites:

  • Valid Private Pilot License
  • Valid Category 1 or 3 Medical Certificate

Training Requirements:

To achieve a Night Rating you must have:

  • a minimum of 20 hours pilot flight time in aeroplanes, including:
    • 10 hours of night flight time including a minimum of:
      • 5 hours dual flight time, including two hours of cross country flight time
      • 5 hours solo flight time, including 10 takeoffs, circuits and landings
      • 10 hours dual instrument time
      • Credit for a maximum of five hours of the 10 hours of dual instrument may be given for instrument ground time, provided that the total instrument time shall be in addition to the 10 hours night flight time in sub-paragraph above.
  • Displayed satisfactory knowledge to your instructor.

Note:  Within the 12 months preceding the date of application for a night rating, an applicant shall have successfully completed a qualifying flight under the supervision of a Transport Canada Inspector or a person qualified in accordance with CAR 425.21 (4) (your flight instructor) by demonstrating the level of skill specified in the Flight Instructor Guide – Aeroplane (TP 975).
