Commercial Pilot – Cross-Country
Take Your Aviation Career Further with Advanced Cross-Country Flight Training
Develop the navigation, flight planning, and decision-making skills required for commercial aviation.
Flight 6ix offers Commercial Pilot Cross-Country Flight Training at Guelph Airpark, Ontario, for pilots working toward their Canadian Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).
This specialized training experience helps pilots strengthen their ability to plan and conduct longer-distance flights, manage navigation, evaluate weather conditions, calculate aircraft performance, and operate safely between multiple airports.
Our proposed 6-hour cross-country flight package is designed to support aspiring commercial pilots in developing the confidence and practical experience necessary for professional flying.
Build the Skills to Fly Beyond Your Local Airport
Commercial aviation requires more than simply flying an aircraft. Pilots must be capable of managing complex navigation routes, understanding changing weather conditions, calculating fuel requirements, and making safe decisions throughout a flight.
At Flight 6ix, cross-country training emphasizes real-world flight preparation and independent decision-making.
Pilots develop their skills through flight planning, navigation exercises, airport operations, and supervised preparation for longer-distance flights.
Program Requirements and Eligibility
Our Commercial Pilot Cross-Country Flight Training package is intended for pilots pursuing a CPL who need to develop their cross-country navigation experience.
Prerequisites
Hold a valid Private Pilot Licence – Aeroplane (PPL-A).
Hold a valid aviation medical certificate appropriate to the flying privileges being exercised.
Have sufficient flying experience and demonstrated navigation competency.
Meet Flight 6ix’s aircraft checkout, solo authorization, and operational requirements.
Obtain approval from the supervising flight instructor before undertaking solo cross-country operations.
Training Requirements
The proposed six-hour package focuses on:
Long-distance VFR cross-country flight planning.
Navigation charts, flight logs, and GPS navigation.
Weather interpretation and flight decision-making.
Aircraft performance calculations.
Fuel planning and fuel management.
Airspace classification and radio communication.
Navigation between multiple airports.
Diversion procedures and alternate airport planning.
Cross-country safety and emergency preparedness.
Practical preparation for the required CPL long solo cross-country flight.
Actual flight duration depends on the approved route, weather conditions, aircraft performance, and individual student requirements.
Commercial Pilot Cross-Country Flight Requirements in Canada
Transport Canada requires commercial pilot applicants to demonstrate substantial flight experience, including cross-country navigation and independent aircraft operation.
Under the conventional CPL(A) requirements, pilots must accumulate at least 20 hours of cross-country flight time as Pilot-in-Command, along with specific dual cross-country training.
A required long solo cross-country flight must cover at least 300 nautical miles total distance, include full-stop landings at three different aerodromes other than the departure airport, and reach an aerodrome at least 250 nautical miles straight-line distance from the starting point.
Flight 6ix helps pilots understand these requirements and prepare appropriately for their cross-country flying objectives.
What Will You Learn?
